iOS 7 is the “biggest change to iOS since the iPhone” and features 10 headline new features alongside a radically redesigned user interface. Here’s a quick run through of the new features on iOS 7:

Control Centre

For users on Android, Control Centre won’t be new. However, for iOS it’s a wow feature. Control centre is activated with a swipe up from the bottom of your phone and can be accessed from anywhere, including from the lock screen.

Control Centre offers shortcuts to selected Settings, your display brightness, your music control, AirDrop and AirPlay and shortcuts to certain apps including a flashlight.

Notifications

Notifications has also been overhauled, this time offering a quick glance view at your notifications for today, all your notifications and any missed notifications. Everything appears in your notifications bar and the background also adapts to the image behind.

Multitasking

Multitasking has been completely changed in iOS 7 and it’s nothing like you’ve seen before. Gone is the very static user interface to be replaced with a new scrollable preview of your apps.

We hear you ask – how do you shut the app down?

Camera

A new iOS 7 means new camera and now you can swipe between four different camera modes. Instead of tapping an icon, you simply swipe left and right to change the camera mode between Video, Panorama, Still shot and Square photo.

The new iOS 7 camera will also come with new filter options to allow you to edit and touch up your photos. It’ll be interesting to see how Instagram (and their filters) react to the new iOS 7 filters.

Siri

Siri has been completely overhauled in the new iOS 7 operating system.

When you speak, Siri recognises your voice and you can see the waveforms as an indication it has heard you. You’ll be able to search the web and see the Bing search results appear within Siri.

Siri also comes synced with Wikipedia – the world’s largest online encyclopedia. You can see results and edit them as well. Siri also searches your Twitter timeline and checks on Twitter to show the tweets from the person you search for.

Other new features in iOS 7 include:

  • Safari – the same Safari experience found on OS X Mavericks is bundled with Safari in iOS 7.
  • AirDrop – now you can use AirDrop to sync files to and from your iOS device and your Mac or other iOS device.
  • App Store – the App Store now comes with a new Near Me option that offers useful apps based upon your location.
  • iTunes Radio – iTunes Radio is now official, allowing you to listen to digital radio stations. iTunes Radio is ad-supported free or ad-free for iTunes Match subscribers.
  • Photos – Photos now comes with a redesigned UI that takes on the new Google+ experience. Collections groups photos together in clever archives and the whole experience is completely new.
