Social media tips for an outstanding Facebook page

Editor’s Note: this is a guest post by Claudia, a professional technology blogger.

Simply creating a facebook page is far from achieving what you actually want- publicity. Due to the rise in the reach-out of social media, every company, brand, corporation or even movies have their own facebook page. However, having that is not enough. What we want is a good, articulate and a catchy page that spreads like the plague.

Creating the page on facebook is just about scratching the surface. There is a lot of deep digging required. We start this by a simple process- communication.

A celebrity or a song page or even that of a fictional character continues to thrive as it allows the members to communicate freely. And not just with the page owners but also with other members. Therefore it is important to reach out to the members. Post funny statuses, pictures and also reply to comments or wall posts of your members.

Be open to suggestions: If a member says that a poster with a troll face cartoon will look better as your cover, take it into consideration. Even better is the option of ‘ask a question’. Here, you may post a question which shall be answered by the members of your page. In the end, the winner gets the cover picture!

Good Content: Also, content is important. When you want your page to be the discussion of a kitty party, make it worthy of that. Post page-related information, pictures and little teasers. Posting articles or notes once a month wouldn’t hurt either. But the mantra here is KISS- Keep It Short and Sweet.

Audience: Keep a check on the audience. If your page is something meant for teens, do teen related activities on it. For example you could ask your members something like, “So where did you take your boy/girl friend on Valentine’s day?” It’s important to know your target.

Facebook also has this amazing option where you receive weekly updates about your page. Don’t ignore this email as it’s very helpful. It shows the number of people your page has managed to reach out to and also the popularity of your posts.

This way you know what works and what doesn’t! Apart from that it has an excellent feature of finding out what countries are your maximum followers from. This way you can do a little analyzing and figure out why is it that you are so famous among the people from that place.

Finally, when your page has really started to pick up, you can hold little contests and games on your page. For example a page based on a mystery novel can have a trivia quiz or a page based on photography can have a ‘photo of the week’ contest. Offer awards like advertising their profiles or something fun like the title of ‘Curious Cat Cameraman of the week’

You must always remember to be polite and open minded while interacting with the members. Don’t criticize any religion or political party or post anything that might hurt someone’s feelings. Also, always aim for more. Have a million fans already? Next stop- 2 million!

Happy Facebooking!
