RIM loses another executive

RIM has lost yet another executive, with the company’s Chief Legal Officer announcing she will be leaving the company once a replacement can be found.

The latest in a series of high-profile departures, including Global Head of Sales Patrick Spence and former co-CEO Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis, poses serious questions about the future of the company under the leadership of new CEO Thorsten Heins.

RIM has already announced 2,000 job cuts amidst poor financial performance and a tightening of belts, but the loss of Karima Bawa, who took over the role of Chief Legal Officer in 2010, is sure to deharmonise employees, with sources telling Reuters, that some employees “aren’t 100 percent comfortable” with the future under Heins.

RIM’s total workforce is equal to around 16,500 people but with 2,000 set to be cut on June 1st (Thursday this week), it does raise the question of whether further jobs will be lost.
