Vodafone has launched its new ‘Nearly New’ initiative, which allows new customers to grab a bargain by picking up a Nearly New handset instead of a brand new one. Vodafone say that ‘Nearly New’ offers pre-owned smartphones at a discounted rate for Pay As You Go (PAYG) and Pay Monthly (PAYM) customers.
Nearly New devices are those that have been returned inside the network’s 7 days returns policy. All phones go through a strict series of checks and processes (including a full security wipe) before being placed on the scheme and are re-boxed with all the right accessories. All Nearly New devices come with warranty (12 months for PAYG, 24 months for PAYM).
Some of the bargains to be had include the Samsung Galaxy S III and the HTC One X. The scheme offers PAYG customers a discounted upfront price and PAYM customers a lower monthly line rental – the current economic climate in the UK means that ‘Nearly New’ offers a great deal for those looking to save money.
A Vodafone UK spokesperson said:
“Nearly New is designed to make it even more affordable for people, especially those who prefer pay as you go services, to get their hands on a smartphone and start using the mobile internet. It is part of our ambition to get the internet into the hands of our customers. It follows the changes we have already made to the way we sell new devices –such as refurbishing our shops to focus on service and introducing our Tech Team of in-store, online and call centre technical support staff –to ensure that we help our customers get the most out of their new gadget.”
Nearly New is available for PAYG across all Vodafone stores now and will be launched on the company’s website next week. For PAYM customers, you’ll need to get down to one of the bigger stores or wait until the scheme launches online next week. It’s also worth noting that the device range will vary according to the devices that people return so if you see a deal you like, grab it as soon as you can!
Here’s the current deals:
PAYG – 8GB Apple iPhone 4 is just £250, versus £405 brand new on Vodafone’s website and £319 from Apple directly. iPhone 3GS is also available (price to be confirmed) but the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 are not included in Nearly New.
PAYM – the highlight deal is the Samsung Galaxy SIII (Galaxy S3 review), which is free at £33/month with unlimited calls and texts vs free at £37/month with unlimited calls and texts, for a brand new one. Vodafone are also offering a Nearly New HTC One X, which scored high praise in our review.
